Unlock everything

I am  a techy person and like to control my technology. I own a wii, Samsung android i7500 phone , ipod. I have unlocked all of the above. That has enabled me to expand their technology beyond the delievered software. For example

Unlocking Wii - I am able to take backup of Wii games in USB drive and play off of them. This makes the gameplay faster as the console is not busy reading data from slow Disc drive, but also saves Disc life. You can install other old virtual consoles, install other open source programs. I am enjoying this and would recommend this to anyone.

Unlocking Samsung Android i7500 - You can root the phone , means take full permission of all file system of the phone , this will make you an administrator and you can install other customized Android OS and not just limit your phone to the delievered OS. I was able to install a custom OS based on Android 1.6 , my phone came with android 1.5 and upgrading is always better. everything works like a charm .

Unlocking iPod -  Did this for fun , you can install custom softwares on your ipod , not just limiting you to the Market Apps.

Destro for 11"

Just finished installing Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 AMD 64 Bit in my Acer Aspire AS1551-4650 Notebook . Configuration is 11.6" , AMD Athlon II Neo K325 (1.30GHz), 2GB DDR3 Memory, 250GB HDD . Installation is a Dual Mode with Windows 7 OS. This was my first ever Ubuntu installation which went as smooth as possible. Instructions posted on Ubuntu site are clear and it was a fast installation. There is only one issue remaining that is the Wireless is currently coming as disabled. For now windows is living without 50 GB of space ( allocated to Ubuntu ).

I would like to make following changes for which I am finding solutions ( Ubuntu community is generous so hopefully that shouldn't take long)

1. Make windows as default boot OS. Requires modification in grub config file.
2. There are several linux options in boot screen 22-generic , 24-generic ( I would prefer only one ). Requires modification in grub config file, need to spend time to understand boot options huh!

My reasons for installing Ubuntu was that its a very light and fast OS . For a notebook which has limited resources Ubuntu seemed a good choice. Also no worries of installing resource demanding Anti Virus software. Only worry is going back to Windows only , that would require to remove linux partition and make windows bootable USB media , as laptop does not have a rom drive. Space Consideration!!
